Profile

“1 • 5 ONE FIVE” is the first collaboration barley shochu produced by distillers on the border islands of Iki and Goto in Nagasaki Prefecture. “1” represents Iki while “5” represents Goto. The sky blue colour of the bottle is designed to be reminiscent of the bountiful seas surrounding Iki and Goto Islands.

To promote the remote islands of Nagasaki Prefecture, the distillers visited each other’s distilleries and decided on a blend to bring out the best of each shochu. This shochu is blended with a ratio of 6:4, with 60% from Ikinokura Distillery and 40% from Goto Retto Distillery. You can enjoy the taste, flavor, aroma, and mouthfeel of this fusion of the charms of the islands.

Fresh, light, modern style with aromas of red apple, peach, creamy banana & fresh flowers with luxurious umami. Enjoy on the rocks or diluted with a little cold or warm water.

Production Methodology

Shochu is a distilled spirit from Japan; 1 • 5 ONE FIVE is made from barley grown in the southern islands of Nagasaki Prefecture.

Since 1984, Ikinokura Distillery has embraced traditional barley shochu-making techniques but also has the courage to innovate and bring the best of barley shochu. Ikinokura Distillery believes that vacuum distillation (with reduced pressure) would better showcase the delicate and sweet flavours of rice koji and barley in the shochu. The shochu is then matured for eight years for a smooth, rounded texture before being added to 1 • 5 as part of the blend.

Goto Retto Distillery was established in 2007 and is dedicated to using local Goto ingredients to make shochu and other alcoholic beverages. 1 • 5 is made by fermenting with Goto Tsubaki Yeast, a natural yeast collected from camellia flowers grown on the Goto Islands, which has high fermentation power in creating ginjo-styled fruity aromas. Camelia is the symbolic flower of Iki and Goto City.

Camelia is known as “Tsubaki” in Japanese

Tips

1 • 5 ONE FIVE works easily with any juice or tea in your fridge!

Prepare some ice, pour the shochu, and try mixing with juice, e.g., orange, lemon, grapefruit, or mix with cold tea, e.g., hojicha, oolong tea. Pleasant and refreshing, especially in the summer.

Prefer classic cocktails? Try switching bourbon with 1 • 5 ONE FIVE for your Old Fashioned.
