MUGA Gold is part of the seasonal MUGA series, released early in the brewing year. There are four in total: MUGA Platinum, MUGA Green, MUGA Red & MUGA Gold.
The MUGA series is all about freshness! Made early on in the brewing year, and bottled on the day of pressing, the MUGA series is muroka nama genshu – unfiltered, unpasteurised & undiluted – and uses a special bottling method to limit exposure to oxygen. Expect some spritz on opening and a juicy, youthful & zingy style.
MUGA Gold is made from Hyogo Prefecture grown Yamada Nishiki, offering depth and imtegrated umami to the sake. The gold design reflects the prestige status of Yamada Nishiki as being the “king of sake-brewing rice.” It’s still muroka nama genshu so expect that vibrancy & zest but MUGA Gold is exceptionally fresh and juicy, makes it super palatable.
The palate is sharp, crystalline due to its bright acidity with expressive aromas of red apple, muscat and grapefruit and vivid flavours of juicy red apple, Japanese pear & white peach. Light touches of umami throughout. Juicy, fresh & crisp.
Versatile pairing options with MUGA Gold: from succulent slices of ham or pulled pork to creamy chesses like burrata, and full flavours like smoked fish or Indian curry.
